Purpose ...

Living in Salem, Massachusetts, the Boston Marathon holds special meaning to me. As a youngster just developing an interest in track in the 70s and 80s, I followed our country's most prominent marathon, pulling for locals like Bill Rodgers, Alberto Salazar, and Joan Benoit Samuelson.

When I think of the Boston Marathon, I recall those champions along with Arlington's John A. Kelley, who ran the race 61 times and won twice.

The Marathon has evolved much since 1897. Today, it is truly one of the world's great races. Runners from around the globe compete in Boston.

For example ...

I cannot do the Boston Marathon justice in the few pages I have created on this site, but I hope to show how this race is a sought after prize for elite athletes from far away nations. Here are a few of the recent champions to help make this an international event:
